Shorashim - Hebrew for "Roots"
Shorashim - Hebrew for "Roots"

Messianic Yeshiva

Discover and engage with your roots here

Part of the work of Shorashim Ministries is to promote the biblically Jewish roots of Christianity by way of research, debate and knowledge sharing.

This is not simply an exercise of the intellect, but of the whole person. It is our aim to promote a truly biblical lifestyle, wherever this can add value to the individual's own journey with God.

The Shorashim 'Yeshiva' is key to this aim. It's a place where we will regularly post comments, thoughts, musings, studies and discoveries through life's journey and on the Word of God.

It is an informal, dynamic and vibrant arena where we invite you to sit with us in Yeshiva - and where your own contributions are essential. So don't just sit and observe - get involved!

As the Rabbis say, "it is not a sin to be ignorant, but it is a sin to not want to know".

What is a Yeshiva?

Young Orthodox Yeshiva Students

The Hebrew word yeshiva literally means 'sitting', as it is the Jewish custom for students to sit while learning. The term Beit Midrash is also used, which means 'House of Learning' or 'House of Study'.

In Biblical culture, and still today, Jewish study is done with a study-partner called a chavrusa (based on the Aramaic, meaning "friend").

The chavrusa is one of the unique features of the yeshiva where the partners actively study the various nuances of the literature of the Sages.

Biblical Study Methods

Leave no stone unturned...

Here, our emphasis is entirely on God's written Word in scripture. Jewish texts and commentaries are included along with other historical sources, and more modern textual discoveries, in order to gain the best and fullest understanding of what God's instruction and teaching is for our lives today.

To that end, we also have a section on how to take your first steps in learning modern and / or Biblical Hebrew, and an easy-access area where you can take a look at different Hebrew words and their deeper meanings.

Surely, we should leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of God's truth for our lives?

Going Deeper

Dive down deep to discover pearls of the Kingdom

So, this is where you can find some of the latest articles / studies / items of interest on biblical Jewish roots as well as other topics concerning Israel and the Jewish people.

If you want to go deeper into the Word of God, then this is the place to be. New items will be added regularly, so be sure to check back and get involved by 'having your say' through the message boards at the bottom of each article page.

This is an opportunity for you to think. Again.

Get involved...

We invite you to walk and talk with us so we can pool our shared knowledge and experience of God and learn together - just as in the Biblical and Jewish Yeshiva setting.

Spend a while with us in our studies, research, and thoughts. Indeed, just as in yeshiva, we invite you to actively engage with us and have your own say in the matters being discussed.

At times we'll discuss scripture, at other times Biblical lifestyle, and at yet other times current affairs. You can even suggest topics for discussion by contacting us.
